A Vision of Unity: My Journey in Designing a Logo for the Nigerian Civil Service

Recently, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation launched a logo design competition, inviting creatives across Nigeria to submit their interpretations of a logo that would encapsulate the spirit of the Nigerian Civil Service. Inspired by this opportunity to make a meaningful contribution, I decided to participate and create a design that would reflect the values and essence of the Civil Service in Nigeria.

From the outset, I recognized that a simple brandmark would fall short of capturing the broad and dynamic role of the Civil Service. This institution touches nearly every aspect of Nigerian life, embodying a vast network of individuals, professions, and services that together shape the country’s progress. To me, a single color or illustration couldn’t possibly convey the depth and diversity inherent in the Civil Service. Instead, I believed that a well-thought-out use of colors would best represent this diversity, with each color symbolizing a unique strength and characteristic within the Civil Service.

As I worked, I envisioned each color as a unique element that, when combined, would harmonize to create a visual masterpiece. These colors would individually represent different strengths, yet collectively portray the unity that binds the Civil Service—a unity that drives its mission to serve the nation. Inspired by the motto “Unity in Diversity,” I carefully selected colors that, when brought together, would not only be visually striking but also symbolize the cohesion and commitment of the Nigerian Civil Service.

After several iterations, I arrived at a design that I felt honored the Civil Service’s commitment to unity and diversity. This final creation, I believe, embodies the mission of the Civil Service and serves as a symbol of its dedication to progress, inclusivity, and resilience.

As I submit my entry, I am hopeful that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service will appreciate this tribute to the institution. In designing this logo, my aim was not only to meet the brief but to celebrate the Civil Service as an integral force in Nigeria’s growth—a force that thrives on collaboration, diversity, and unwavering unity.
